Download report

Optera conducted a survey of 90 sustainability leaders to gather intel on program priorities, challenges, and trends in corporate emissions management. The data reveals that we’re in a fascinating moment for our industry—emissions management has achieved new levels of program maturity, while still lagging in key areas like data management and dedicated tool adoption.

Consumer Trends

76% of respondents rank the opportunity for brand and product differentiation as a top-three motivator for tackling corporate emissions.

This strong focus on sustainability as a differentiator isn't just an internal corporate perspective; it aligns closely with evolving consumer behavior and preferences. Recent market trends have shown that consumers are increasingly willing to vote with their wallets for sustainable products.

Data Trends

41% of respondents cite data management and collection as their most pressing issue in complying with regulations.

The majority of companies surveyed are still grappling with basic data management issues, often using tools not specifically designed for emissions management.

Supply Chain Icon - Trends

Nearly 70% of respondents are actively working across their value chain to help suppliers decarbonize.

As emissions reporting becomes commonplace, many large companies seem to be expanding their focus to not just decarbonization, but also their supply chains. This focus on supply chain emissions is crucial, as they often represent the majority of a company's total emissions footprint.
